Why Good Americans Keep Religion Out Of Democracy

Women have never been safe from religion

…but we will keep trying

Hey, I know this sounds crazy but people’s “deeply held beliefs” are almost always a danger to the women we love.

The reason we all need to be concerned about religion (if we are concerned about our shared society) is because our goals are to have good and beneficial POLICIES.  Politics can lead to enough consensus that we get that POLICY.  Policy leads to societal good.  The goal is what’s good for as many of us as possible.

Religion scrambles the brain and logic with emotions so profoundly that people then have trouble with logic and rational thinking. That’s when they support policies that lead to BAD societal outcomes.  But it gets worse: religious leaders and “experts” can then tell these believers that the policies that harmed them were under-applied… It didn’t work “because we really NEED MORE witch-burning to have happy women…”

They can claim that we need to burn ten or a hundred times more women to have happy women.  And the human brain, when under-informed due to a blindness brought on by religious belief, cannot see the wrong in burning women. Good women are then actually tied up and burned until town after town begins running out of women to burn.  After this puritan holocaust, when people finally come to their senses and decide, oops,  maybe they misunderstood scripture, no one apologizes or gets in trouble – there is no accountability in faith.  In fact, the crazy men who told everyone to burn witches are soon the ones who decide “what god really meant”… and now it’s onto burning kittens and puppies (the female ones, of course).

All over the nation, “deeply held religious beliefs” are causing men to insert themselves between women and their doctors.. and it’s all about punishment. It’s all about today’s new fantasy regarding what is “moral” and that women need to be punished by being jailed “if they endanger the baby by taking drugs (… smoking.. eating sushi… choosing the wrong god..)” – The morality-police next want to separate babies from these evil, immoral mothers s they can discard them; throw them in jail… and feel so faithful to their beliefs.

And so countless women in Tennessee, fearing punishment, will not go to the doctor anymore…especially if they have any trouble with substances. Now that fetus and later that baby gets even less help.  To the believers, there will be even more ‘wicked women… ‘ and it will get worse and worse. This is already happening.

This is where we come in. We can see that religion is metaphor and we can see that law and society is a “here-and-now-reality.”   And as much as the preachers scream, we are tasked.  We must beat them back and say, “Separate our state from your church-beliefs”… and if we fight back hard enough, we stop ANY MORE women from being burned.  In the meanwhile, they who lit the matches and gathered the kindling, go back to plotting their next rise to power.
The day is at hand. Be ever vigilant.  No more women need be burned at the stake of superstition.
